Yesterday afternoon I walked into the Skyland Resort parking lot and picked up the keys to a cabin room.
Like lost National Park “resorts” it’s dated and a kinda run down. It’s also expensive for what it is, but it’s right on the trail and I don’t have to shuttle or schedule anything.
Last night I sat down and looked at my mileage so far and realized that I have passed to 300 mile point since Springer Mountain. So happy that I made the decision to come back to the trail.
Over the past eight days I’ve walked over 90 miles in the most beautiful lands I’ve ever hiked through in the US. The trails are still relentlessly up and down, but the scenery is incredible. I’ve fallen head over heels for the stunning beauty of Virginia.
Since I have yet to take a day off, today (day 9 SOBO) I am taking a zero. I’ll rest my legs, eat an ice cream or three and drink a beer. I’ll dine in a restaurant tonight and sleep in a bed.
But best of all, tomorrow I’ll be back with my feet on the trail, my face in the sun and my soul thankful.

Since hiked some of the northwest i might argue that it looks better, but i am sure perspective is everything!!
you’re doing great man
Hey Chris! Thanks man!
Yeah, it’s a different world from the PNW or pretty much anywhere I’ve hiked. Loving the deciduous forests, the history, and the vibe of the folks along the trail.
