I am in the room at Amicalola Falls, Georgia. The day after tomorrow I’ll begin my trek to the top of Mt Katahdin. I have been so focused on gear and planning that it never occurred to me that I would find myself sitting here sharing a bottle of wine with my wife and pondering what is ahead.
By road I am 875 miles from my bed, my pool, my cats, my… comfort zone. I am over 2,200 miles from the end of the Appalachian Trail.
I know I’ll meet amazing new people, and have incredible experiences. Even though I love adventure and don’t fear the outdoors, I am aware that this adventure is going to test my body and my mind. It’s certainly got my attention.
During our trip here we visited the crossroads where Robert Johnson (the greatest blues guitarist to ever live) sold his soul to the devil. I’ve stood at the top of Mississippi and Alabama and enjoyed hours and hours of time with the most supportive woman any wanderer could ask for. It makes me question what it is in me that isn’t ever satisfied with where I’ve been, what I’ve accomplished and who I am. Maybe that’s it… maybe this is a thirst to be more. To be better.
Time will tell. I’ll let you know. Sorry so serious.

So glad you’re taking this adventure and pushing yourself. This is one of those experiences that you will think about til the end of your days. I’m so glad you are documenting what you can. I feel like I’m there with you ina sense. Safe travels and this will be the first of many posts from me.
