Highways, byways, Guy ways…

HEY.

Time to take a 2,197.4 mile walk. (Give or take a few feet)

Taking a Zero

Alrighty then… first off, what’s a “zero”… a zero is a do nothing day. Don’t hike, just chill.

Lots of reasons for Zeroes. Weather, resupply, rest, injury. Guess which mine is?!

Yep. Injury. Not the end of the world (just yet), I came off trail after 9.7 miles of a planned 15 miler due to a minor problem involving me not being able to bend my knee. (Kind of an issue when everything in your life revolves around walking.)

So, after a quick talk with Danielle, I agreed to head into Hiawassee for the night. Two hiking buddies who were having similar issues came with and we crashed at a hotel. My knee was still a bit locked up today so I’ll chill until tomorrow. Rested, iced, compressed and elevated and I’m feeling ready to rock (slow and short miles again tomorrow.) Elfmeister continues!

Peace. Love. Hiking. – Elfmeister

Hopefully, only a minor set back. I’ll pray for you.
    Seriously, hope you feel better.

I’m solid. Feeling better already. Back on the trail tomorrow and only a short hike in. Then I’ll go easy until it’s back to normal. I hike fast and it’s hard on the joints. Time to slow down.

I had Iliotibial Band (IT Band) issues. Hurts like hell and makes downhills the worst! Trail “doctors” said, “You just have to get past it.” Hated them for saying that, but they were right… Hang in there!

Yeah, I’ve walked past the pain (sort of) and am feeling great now. Still keeping it around 12 miles a day, but will probably slowly start ramping those miles up in the next week. Hiking on my friend!
