Highways, byways, Guy ways…

HEY.

Time to take a 2,197.4 mile walk. (Give or take a few feet)

Week One

So, we’ve discussed in my last post that I have an injury. Tendinitis in my knees. It’ll walk out. It’ll be fine. So, let’s talk about cool stuff.

I’ve experienced sleeping in both shelters and tents now. For the most part, I’m a tent guy. What I’ve learned at that not too many people get great sleep out here. A lot of that is because when the sun goes down it gets cold. And usually breezy. And so far, it rains. A lot. And one in three people or so snore. I like the tent. Warmer, more secluded. Choose your own bedtime. Good stuff.

It rained and/or was cloudy for the majority of the hike so far. We had a couple of patches of sun on day four. I was first to the shelter so I walked around naked for about 20 minutes and took a wet wipe bath. Naked is refreshing. Wet wipes just push dirty and salt from one part of your body to the other.

Yesterday (day 6) the sun was out. It was beautiful! But the wind was also gusting to 35 mph and had been since about 7pm the night before. Good news though… it was sunny and you could see beyond 10 feet.

Anyway, I don’t much feel like writing so I’ll throw some pics up here and say: Peace, love, hiking. – Elfmeister

Cool pics Elfmeister! Happy to hear that the knees are going to be ok. I wouldn’t have stayed in that shelter either!

There were people there who’d set up their tent inside the shelter. Helps with the cold, but not the creepy.

Looks cool so far. I think if I start to train for it now in a couple years I could do it. What’s the old person you have met out there? I think the cemetery would have been cool to camp in. Take care EM.

It’s been incredible so far. A spectacular journey all the way.
Oldest person I’ve met was a woman named “92”. She’s 75 years old and cranking out about 8-9 miles a day. She told me her 81 year old husband was not thrilled with her doing this, but still is supportive. Thanks!
